Stiching on Cards

This week we're going to focusing in on using stitching on projects.  You'll find some with hand stitching, machine stitching, and even faux stitching.  What's your favorite type to try?

A kit club especially for those of you in New Zealand

Our design team member Caz is from New Zealand and recently told us about this kit club.  I asked her to do a little write up and feature:  Harvest moon is a brand new kit club just started in September in New Zealand which is great for all us kiwi ladies wanting to save on shipping but still wanting some fabulous product.  You can find it at www.harvestmoon.co.nz  and also on face book where the owner Cindy and Practical Scrappers DT member Caz have been hosting some challenges. They are currently working behind the scenes on a fabulous new blog that will bring a ton of challenges and also they will be on the search for some guest designers so please keep an eye out for that coming soon.  Please go ahead and 'like' us on face book and follow our journey :)

Here are a few layouts Caz made with the September kit

Pins and Paperclips!

Aren't we rocking the Practical aspect of our site this week?!?  I hope you're enjoying it as much as we are!  Here's another day full of items we all have in our homes or easily accessible...pins and paperclips.  We even have a video  that I made from our first year of Practical Scrappers (in fact it was our first ever video tutorial here!) with a fun idea for embellishing your paperclips.

Projects with Staples

Here at Practical Scrappers, we are always looking for fresh new ideas to reinvent those common supplies you already have lying around the house. Today, we'd like to highlight one of those items-- staples. I am sure all of you scrapbookers, card makers, and crafters have a stapler somewhere in your house. So I have a little poll for you to answer...

Now that you've answered the question how about we take a look at some of the projects our readers and design team came up with using staples on their projects...

Challenge Me Tuesday: Pets

***Next week, let's make it easy: send me your projects with a Halloween theme...but don't use any black!***

This week's challenge was all about pets. The last little while we've been a bit "puppy crazy" in my house, waiting for our newborn pup to be old enough to bring home from the breeder's. It's amazing what the promise of a new puppy can do to 2 little ( and one not so little ) boys.
Thank you everyone for sharing your dogs, cats, fish and horses!
Check out these beautiful pets and projects!

Frugal Finds: Bread Tags and Ties...who knew?

We're back with our monthly feature where we use something unexpected and cheap on our projects.  This month we used bread tags and ties.  This was my idea and once I got started I wanted to kick myself (wouldn't blame Erin and Kerri if they felt the same way :))  Erin did learn that they melt...so fair warning to all of you stay away from your embossing gun with these! All that said I think you'll really enjoy what we came up with and you will definitely be forced to think outside of your normal box!

Erin incorporated them into a nifty storage idea for bakers twine!

 Brilliant!

Kerri disguised hers with paint and turned it into a monster.  Think of the possibilities for all sorts of Halloween creatures...your kids would have a blast!

Kerri also covered hers in alcohol ink and used them to create a banner on a card.

We never use up all the ties that come with trash bags, so when I found a whole set of the pretty blue ones in my drawer I grabbed them.  I set them as the backdrop for the black frame.  They give a funky corrugated look with some nice shine to it.

For the last card I wanted to use the bread tags totally raw and see if I could make them work on a card.  It makes for a very graphic, funky feel...but I think it works :)
